Why did I become a PA?
I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to become a PA when I started working for the Mind Charity. This is work I absolutely loved, as I really enjoyed working 1 to 1 and being able to make a positive difference to people's lives.
At the end of 2016 when I was working as both a PA and a Coordinator at the Mind Charity, we were given the unfortunate news that they were closing.
We were told that individuals currently receiving support through the company would lose their PA's and would be sent elsewhere.
By this stage I was extremely settled, and had built a huge amount of experience and did not want to lose the hard work I had put in through those two years to have to start all over again.
So I began to wonder whether it would be possible to continue working with the individuals I was currently supporting on a self employed basis. I spent the next month researching and checking that this is something I could do.
By the time individuals were informed of Mind's closure in January 2017, I was all set up and ready to begin, all I had to do now was contact who I was supporting and inform them that I had set up self employed and give them the option to continue with me if they wished. Thankfully for me,everyone wished for me to continue with them which meant I had a fully made business right from the start. I have never looked back!
I work with a person centred approach, no two people are the same, and I will always adapt to working the way that is best for the individual.
